Deep in the Heart of Central NJ - NOTE: New Ride Date, Sunday July, 3 2022
Sunday, July 3, 2022 - 09:00

A revival of a 36-miler from Princeton Junction to Aberdeen-Matawan, via Freehold, the favored crossroads of the long-gone Lenapes and the site where revolutionary hero Molly Pitcher she-manned a cannon after her husband was gunned down at nearby Monmouth Battlefield.  Much of the ride from Freehold to Matawan is on the Henry Hudson Rail Trail, so we'll see lots of greenery and carless countryside.  From Princeton Junction into Freehold, it's mostly flat, with some minor climbs, but for the most part we'll travel long stretches of open country back roads for 25 miles or so into Freehold and lunch at any one of several fine dining places in town.  After, we shift gears from road to trail riding, slow the pace, and devote the nicer part of the afternoon to spinning our wheels effortlessly to Matawan, via the Henry Hudson Trail, and our train ride back to the city.  (A mere 10 more miles!)

Note: Meet up at 9 AM at the Amtrak main waiting area (near the escalators, inside Penn Station, Eighth Avenue and 31 Street side).  NJ Transit vending machines and escalator to the trains are nearby.  We board the 9:14 Northeast Corridor to Princeton Junction.  If you have questions, email the leaders.

Important!  This is a point-to-point ride.  The ride begins at the Princeton Junction train station but ends at the Aberdeen-Matawan train station.  We will NOT be returning to the Princeton Junction train station.

And here is our route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38710443
