Boat + Bike Fun Cruisin'
Early start and early back for a fun ride cruising the East River/harbor to the NE of Manhattan. Whatever kind of bikes you'd like!
We hop onto the East River Ferry at 90th St. and it's a short but very scenic and enjoyable ride to that route's northern terminus at Classon Point Park. From there we wend our way back on bikes mostly via trails/lanes (Soundview, Classson, and Concrete Parks) and then onto Randall's and Ward Islands, crossing over the pedestrian bridge back to end at Carl Schurz Park (ETA 11:30AM).
Short on mileage but long on views and pleasure. Snack and bev stop along the way back. Neat way to enjoy a Sunday morning ride before it all gets busy, and leaves plenty of time for other "stuff" that afternoon.
Weather should be fine; sunny and seasonally refreshing. Dress in layers, extra warm at the hand/feet/head.
Bring ferry fee plus the usual bike pump/tube/tools/hydration etc. Subway bails available. Pls print/bring the cue sheet and route that will be emailed to registered riders.
Cross listed NYCC.
1) This ferry route originates Pier 11/7:21AM; E34th St/7:37AM, then our 90th St/7:51 departures. Registered riders can join at earlier stops but please don't pile onto the ride at the last minute w/o registering as there may be other cyclists on board, plus there's a limit to bikes they'll take.
2) Access gates to the platform/ramps to the ferry boat may close a few minutes before published schedule times . . so it behoves you to NOT cut it to the last minute but to leave breathing room to get tix and board.
3) This ferry boat might not have concession stand on board so if you want your sea views with coffee in hand, BYO bevs/snacks (although we'll stop along the way for a brief warmup).
4) Leave extra time to reaching the 90th Street ferry landing 'cuz it's a twisty and walking route up/over the FDR on a temporary path due to construction along Gracie Mansion.
