Come join the The Quick Spring Training Series!

Ride #2 is one way to Port Jefferson, Long Island.  We meet in the large parking lot at Cunningham Park, Union Turnpike & 196 Place, Queens.  55 miles.  Meet at 9:00 AM and depart at 9:07 AM..  Riders must be able to maintain 17 MPH on flat roads.  We may ride some segments in the low 20s, but will compress if necessary.

This is a one way ride through the rolling hills of the North Fork, ending at the Port Jefferson LIRR Station. Short break in Syosset before heading out through Kings Park, Smithtown, St James and Stony Brook. Rolling hills along the Nissequogue River make a very good, scenic, and challenging ride.

We are taking the LIRR back from Port Jefferson. Trains are scheduled for 1:08 PM (a little too early), 2:42 PM, 4:08 (a little too late, and 5:42 (very late).  Figure a 2:42 departure back to the city.  It's approximately a 90 minute train ride to Jamaica.  The fare to Penn Sta. is $13.75.  Be sure to bring MTA LIRR Bike Permit and train fare.  Tickets can be purchased in advance, or at the station machines prior to boarding the train.

The Quick Spring Training Series:

This series of rides will get you back in shape by summer.  The rides start at reasonable distances and build up each week.

If you consider yourself to be a pretty good rider who enjoys riding in the comfort of a small (8-10 person) group of riders who compliment one another throughout, you are a perfect fit to join in on these rides. On a Quick Spin, we ride together as a group.  Riders do not fly off the front of the group.  The speed of each ride generally is what the group wants it to be. It’s not much faster than what the slowest rider in the group can tolerate. There is no Point/Drop/Sweep. As long as you can maintain 17 MPH on flat roads, you will not be left behind. Occasional compression stops are made to keep everyone together. Often times a revolving pace line is maintained. Riding long distances as a a group we generally ride together and turn together. You’ll find the other riders to have great dispositions and cooperative skills to really make the day enjoyable.
