Tour de MEL
Welcome to Tour de Mel - The 5BBC's most narcissistic ride EVER. Many of you know about my humble beginnings in The Bronx. This ride explores these significant locations in my early life. Among the places we visit are my first home at 1990 Ellis Avenue and the homes of Grandpa Charlie and Grandma Sylvia on Leland and Grandpa Sam and Grandma Anne on Guerlain. We ride past my first school - PS 119. We pass Cong. Bnai Jacob where Sam was the President. We check out Pugsley Creek - where my Dad swam much to the chagrin of Grandma Sylvia. We do ride through some beautiful parks and quiet domestic blocks in the Soundview neighborhood. BUT - make no mistake about it - this ride is about ME !
My favorite restaurant growing up was the Hamburger Express in Parkchester. Food was delivered to your table on the flat bed cars of the model train that rain around the tables. Hamburger Express is long gone - but we still dine in Parkchester - either at Taqueria Tlaxcala or Naan Shack - both great modern day ethnic eateries.
