You can have your water and drink it too. The spring training ride series continues with one of the club's most popular rides: the Croton Reservoir Triple-Cross. Get your fill of Westchester's Croton Reservoir with three lake crossings: the Putnam Trail Railroad Bridge, the Old Croton Dam (Gate House) Bridge, and the New Croton Dam. Ride also features the car-free Putnam Trail, gorgeous views from a lake shore road, and a visit to the best ice cream north of the Croton River. Van Cortland Park to Peekskill

Come Join us on a nice, 50 mile ride up to the scenic town of Peekskill, NY.  We will be starting at the Van Cortland House, in Van Cortland Park at 10:00AM, heading out north on the "South and North County Trails" until we hit Yorktown, NY, at mile 32, where we will stop for lunch at the Yorktown Coach Diner.From there, we will be taking some nice scenic roads, following the shore of the New Croton Reservoir. Cherry Blossom Ride #1 2019

Great ride to see the blossoms and a few other surprises along the way!

This is the annual Cherry Blossom ride, initiated in the 1970s by Irv Weisman, to enjoy the increasing number of blossoms in Branch Brook Park, Newark and Belleville, NJ.  This park has more cherry trees than in Washington, DC and they add more every year.  Bring your camera.

We will enjoy the blossoms for a while then head off for Bloomfield or Montclair, eating in a diner. 

Meet at the bottom of the escalators at the World Trade Center PATH station at the ticket machines. (Lower level of the Occulus)

GWB to Rockland Lake Loop

A nice ride up to a picturesque lake, with a lunch stop in Nyack on the way back.

This is a 50 mile ride starting at the GWB, and heading up north to Rockland Lake State Park. On the way back, we will be stopping in Nyack, where there are about a dozen places to choose from for lunch. We will be keeping a 15-16mph average on the flats, and regrouping on top of the hills. There is around 2200 feet of climbing, spread out over the ride. If you have never ridden up in this area, you will love it!

Picking up some mileage and hills, your  Quick Spring Training Series contines to Rockland Lake!

Ride #4 meets at the George Washington Bridge Bus Terminal is and up and back around Rockland Lake State Park.  We meet just outside the Bus Terminal Entrance and head over the world's busiest motor vehcile bridge, in the bike lane (of course), and up 9W.  We will stop at the Titanic Deli in Congers for Lunch.  After Lunch we loop the park and its 256-acre Lake.  We head home, riding through West Nyack to Tenafly and up Churhill Road to recross the GWB.  62 miles.  Meet at 9:00 AM and... more

Another North Shore training ride, this time to the village of Bayville, often referred to as Pine Island, located on the Long Island Sound facing Greenwich CT. This will be another ride appropriate for Happy Face and Moderate Riders. A motivated point will ride as fast as he can slowed mainly by occasional city street lights. A capable sweep will bring up the rear patiently encoruaging slower riders to finish the circuit!  This ride is perfect for those who are training for the 5 Boro Bike Tour  

1000 Feet of Elevation (up and down) - believe it or not, that's what you get in the 30-35 miles covering the perimeter of Manhattan (we will take bike routes where possible).

Stretching our legs this week the Quick Spring Training Series Ride #5 heads out to Sunken Meadow State Park!

Meeting again in the large parking lot at Cunningham Park, Union Turnpike & 196 Place, Queens.  75 miles.  Meet at 8:30 AM and depart at 8:37 AM.  Riders must be able to maintain 17 MPH on flat roads.

Staten Island Perimeter, 22nd Anniversary Edition

Way back when in 1996, a young Alfredo Garcia planned this ride using paper Hagstrom Maps, with trial and error scouting.  He has been doing this ride for the 5BBC ever since 1997.  This year, Alfredo will be joined by Mel, another fan of the Forgotten Boro.  As the title says, we will be going around the outside of the scenic Isle of Staten.  In doing this ride, we travel on some lovely bike paths, and some not so lovely local roads.  Much of the ride is flat, but being Staten Island, you know there will also be a nice sprinkling of hills.  Our last hill climbs up to Ft. An urban-adventure ride through the peaceful calm and tranquil parklands of the East Bronx: Randalls and Ward islands, Port Morris, Soundview Park, Pugsley Creek, St. Raymonds Cemetery (an appropriate rest stop), Ferry Point Park, Maritime Industry Museum at Fort Schuyler, and Locust Point, where we'll dine al fresco under the Throgs Neck Bridge (superb Italian, at the Ice House). After lunch, some of us can take the subway or Soundview ferry on the return; the rest will backtrack to the city.

Garden City and Hewlett Harbor - A Spring Training Variation

Since we introduced and led this ride a few years ago it has been a fun-filled success and we continue to receive multiple requests to schedule it..  It is a good spring training ride to stretch your miles but with very limited hills.  What more could you ask, other than for the weather to cooperate.

The hilliest ride of the Quick Spring Training Series takes us to Stony Point NY.

On the Trail of the Lenapes: Freehold

Deep in the Heart of Central NJ

The first in a series of early spring Get Out of Towners. We'll be doing an easy 35-miler (more or less) from Princeton Junction to Aberdeen-Matawan, via Freehold, the favored crossroads of the long-gone Lenapes and the site where revolutionary hero Molly Pitcher she-manned a cannon after her husband was gunned down at nearby Monmouth Battlefield. Much of the ride from Freehold to Matawan is on the Henry Hudson Rail Trail, so we'll see lots of greenery and carless countryside. Spring Training - Centre island

One of our favorite rides and destinations, Centre island is a special enclave on the North Shore.  This scenic ride increases the miles, but that won't be an issue if you have joined some prior rides.  Check out the North Shore and build up some endurance at the same time.  Bring lock and money for lunch and an upbeat inquisitive attitude.
 

Lemon Louis

Queens Trumps the other boroughs, especially via a "Trumpeteer" who blew the horn that made him famous.  Add a little gravel to your "Hello Dolly" voice and you have one of the greatest American entertainers of all time, Louis Armstrong. Our ride first takes us to Flushing Cemetery where we will pay our respects at his grave.   Then, we will head to an ethnic restaurant, to dine on some of the food that Louis loved most.
