Waterfront Cruise to Bkfst @ IKEA, & Back
Brisk sortie to IKEA for a light breakfast. Their regular restaurant is closed, but the bistro is open plus there's food sampling in the Swedish food market, both conveniently at the checkout area. So we can still enjoy warming up with coffee, veggie or meat hotdogs, cinnamon buns, plus we can buy for transporting home pre-packaged Swedish treats, some on bigtime discount (chocolates, desserts, breads, salmon, meatballs, etc). And this Saturday 11/10 there's a special promo for "family plan day" (be sure to register in advance for that free reward program) which gives extra discounts and prizes that day, plus a flatware set to the first 100 family members in the lobby. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/store/brooklyn/activities
Our scenic route starts at the Chelsea Pier Carousel, circumnavigates the lower Manhattan waterfront, crosses the Manhattan Bridge, then cruises the Brooklyn waterfront. It's mostly bike paths and off-street riding. Depart sharp at 7:30 so be early for bike check and taking care of your necessary visit to RestRoom in advance. Our target bistro opens 9:30 AM (1/2 hour earlier than main store) and we'll be in time for that and freebie promo deals.
For our return we zip across Brooklyn to the Wille-B and re-enter Manhattan. Estimated return at Willie B (bridge) around 11AM. Optional: You can take the weekend ferry back to Pier 11 Wall Street; that's fun, and be sure to check the schedules and bike regs).
Trip total is 10ish miles outbound; 6ish return; short and sweet. Pace will be brisk but conversational. Cue sheet (print/BYO) will be emailed in advance to registered participants. You need the ability to safely ride lanes, and in some mixed traffic. Ride as a group, only an occasional point-drop-sweep.
BRING: Dress warm for the weather and in layers. BYO the usual tubes, pump, flat repair, hydration, lock/cable for entry door area bike rack at IKEA.
TIP: In advance, join the IKEA family plan; you get free coffee, and get extra discounts/specials on food and other items. https://info.ikea-usa.com/FAMILY/?c
START: Be there by 7:20AM for checkin and Quik bike check. Depart 7:30 AM sharp. Meet outside the carousel on waterfront side of Hudson River Chesea Pier #62, W. 22nd Street. In advance of our start - - restrooms are inside the northeast entrance to Chelsea Pier 62.
FINISH: Willie-B bridge bike path by 11AMish (or Pier 11 if you ferry back to Wall Street).
NOTE: We'll not be weather wimps, so a little bit of "wet" won't deter us, plus Friday night rain is expected to finish in the wee morning hours so we should be free and clear with mostly dry ground. But stay tuned; any changes will be posted to this ride descriiption well before your awakening Sat. morning.
