| The 44th annual Montauk Century will roll on May 18, 2008. Choose from 65, 100, and 145 mile routes on Long Island's beautiful South Shore. Check-in points are at Penn Station and the LIRR station in Babylon. All routes end in Montauk where we'll be serving up hot meals and free massages. Transportation is available to get you and your bike home.

The Montauk Century 2008
Volunteer
If you volunteer to help us with the Montauk Century, you can ride for free – or someone else can.
At this writing, we have the following volunteer jobs still available:
- Pre-event truck loading: This is your chance to ride for free with no volunteer duties on ride day! On Friday or Saturday you can help us load trucks, then Sunday is all yours.
- Check-in: Help us check riders in and load the bikes at Penn Station or at Babylon. When that's done, you can ride the prettiest part of the Montauk Century – our 65 mile route to Montauk. If you will not be riding, you still get a ride number to give away so someone else can ride the Montauk Century (any distance) for free.
- Rest Stops: You'll be the most beloved people on the day of the ride, handing out cold drinks and snacks to the riders. We'll even let you pedal away after the last riders have come through the rest stop so you can catch up with them and finish the ride to Montauk (30-55 miles, depending on which rest stop you're at). Or, if you will not be riding, you still get a ride number to give away so someone else can ride the Montauk Century for free.
- Bike loading:
We need riders to assist with bike loading
at
Montauk.
- Van and Truck Drivers: We rent a bunch of vans and 15' trucks. We need people with a valid drivers license (no special truck license needed) to help make the ride go! These folks do not get to pedal on the big day, but we take extra-good care of them. And you get a ride number to give away to a friend or relative to ride the Montauk Century for free.
Do any of these spots interest you?
Please send an email to montauk@5bbc.org
and tell us:
- Name
- Email
- Phone
- How far do you want to pedal on the Montauk day? (0-65 miles).
- Where do you want to start your day? (Manhattan/Babylon)
- Where do you want to return to at the end of the day? (Manhattan/Babylon)
We'll get back to you and let you know what's available, and you can pick!
We will NEVER assign you a job without your OK.
Once we agree on a volunteer slot for the ride, we'll ask you to register for the event just like everyone else. If you've already registered, that's even better. After the ride is over, we will refund you the entire price of the ride AND your on-line registration fees. (Sorry, we do not reimburse for souvenir jerseys.)
Thanks for helping us out – we couldn't do the ride without you!
