Help promote the Bicycle Safety Action PlanThe Five Borough Bicycle Club, along with several other New York City-area cycling groups, is asking all candidates for City elected offices to endorse the Bicycle Safety Action Plan. We want our public officials to know that bicyclists vote and we don't want City policy to continue to encourage fast traffic over the safety of non-motorized users. We need your help to make this happen. Candidates Who Support BicyclingThe 5BBC does not endorse candidates, and we urge our members to use all available sources of information to decide upon their vote, such as the NYC Campaign Finance Board Voter Guide and the individual candidate web sites listed in that guide. Although we feel that it is important to know how candidates stand on issues important to cycling, responsible voters will no doubt be interested in other issues, and should research all of the candidates for any race before making their choice. Help the Club Contact CandidatesWe need volunteers to reach out to candidates and ask them to endorse the Bicycle Safety Action Plan. If you have the time to help, please write to communications@5bbc.org . Write to the Mayor and your City Council MemberThe Mayor's address is:
You can look up your City Council Member's address at the Council's web site. Transportation Alternatives has provided a sample letter here. Don't Forget to Vote! The 5BBC urges our members to vote in the November 8, 2005 general election. If you are not registered to vote, please visit the New York City Board of Elections to obtain registration information (or call 311). |
