Get To Know the Five Borough Bicycle Club!
In the last few years our club has held what we call the GET TO KNOW US event, sometimes in the springtime and last year in the fall. Whenever we hold it we arrange for multiple rides to meet up at one spot in order to bring together new club riders and our veterans for a picnic party.
This year’s GTKU is scheduled for Sunday, October 10th and what we are planning is ambitious.
We plan to have five distinctly different day rides, each headed to a different borough or New Jersey and meeting up at a wonderful new park location near the West Side Greenway.
We have two quick spin rides: one to North Jersey and one to Staten Island; a moderately paced hilly ride to the Bronx, and happy faced rides to nearby Queens and Red Hook, Brooklyn. This should mean something fun for everyone. Additional ride details are included in the listings.
The GTKU Picnic Party is where we will all converge starting at 2PM. The location is the new
14th Street Park, part of Hudson River Park, and on 10th Avenue between West 14th and 15th
Streets and across the highway from the West Side Greenway. You don’t have to be on a ride to come to the party. (Hint, if you want to help with setup or cleanup just let us know in advance by emailing daytrips@5bbc.org)
Whether you’re a longtime member of the club or a recent arrival, and if you want to turn your friends onto the 5BBC please bring them on one of the GTKU rides or just bring them to the picnic. We’d love to meet them.
And now the fine print: rain cancels.
Return of the Phantom Rides
In this issue I have listed a couple of “Phantom” rides, for dates that I thought should have rides, but where none were submitted. The inclusion of Phantom rides in the calendar does not mean
that I ride will materialize. In order to announce these rides after the newsletter is printed they are announced via voicemail and email on the Wednesday prior to the ride date and listed on the web page.
